Review of Pond Awareness Campaign and Quality Assurance Mechanisms
On August 1, 2025, the Principal Advisor to Chairperson of Haryana Pond Authority, Shri Prabhaker Kumar Verma, met the Vice-Chancellor of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science & Technology, Murthal, Prof. Prakash Singh. During the meeting, they discussed the awareness campaign being run by the Authority in collaboration with university students and faculty to promote pond conservation in villages.
The discussions included a review of the efforts made by the university so far, the visits undertaken by students to various ponds, and ways to further strengthen the awareness campaign.
During the interaction, Shri Prabhaker Kumar Verma shared that out of 19,871 ponds registered on the PDMS of Haryana Pond Authority, 11,022 are polluted. Of these, 6,542 ponds have been included in the Annual Action Plan for 2025–26, which also covers 311 ponds of Sonipat district. Out of these, 29 ponds have already been restored, work is in progress on 5 ponds, while planning is underway for the remaining ponds.
Furthermore, Shri Prabhaker Kumar Verma requested the Vice-Chancellor to establish a Centre for Third-Party Quality Assurance at the university for monitoring the rejuvenation works of ponds in the region. Responding to this, Prof. Prakash Singh directed two senior faculty members present in the meeting, Prof. Vijay Sharma and Prof. Ravi Vaish, to revitalize the ongoing awareness campaign and also to prepare and submit appropriate proposals on both suggestions of the Authority for its approval at the earliest.
